Puerto Vallarta Airport’s Passenger Traffic Rises

Puerto Vallarta International Airport recorded a slight increase of 0.9% in total passenger traffic for May 2025 compared to the same month last year. This modest growth is primarily attributed to a sustained upward trend in domestic tourism, which is offsetting an ongoing decline in international arrivals. Despite the challenges, the airport has already surpassed the 3-million-passenger mark for the first five months of 2025.

Puerto Vallarta’s airport handled 514,300 passengers in May, a slight uptick from 509,800 in May 2024. For the first five months of the year, the total reached 3,294,500 passengers, a 1.4% increase over the 3,292,900 recorded in the same period last year. However, a noticeable reduction occurred compared to the previous month, likely due to seasonal factors.

Domestic flights played a crucial role in maintaining the positive trend, bringing in 278,200 passengers to Puerto Vallarta in May, an 11.2% jump from 250,200 in May 2024. The cumulative domestic passenger count for the first five months reached 1,210,200, representing a 14.4% increase over 2024’s 1,057,800.
New routes introduced during May include Hermosillo – Tijuana, La Paz – Santa Lucía, La Paz – Tijuana, Tijuana – La Paz, Tijuana – Veracruz, and Tijuana – Querétaro, all operated by Viva Aerobus.
