For the first time ever, Puerto Vallarta has been officially recognized as a “Tree City of the World.” This prestigious international designation, awarded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Arbor Day Foundation, and Reforestamos México, celebrates the municipality’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and the diligent care of its urban trees.
The official distinction and accompanying flag were presented by Laura García Santamaría, Tree Cities of the World leader for Mexico and Latin America. Lucía Carmina Michel, Chief Administrative and Human Management Officer, accepted the honors on behalf of Mayor Luis Munguía.
The “Tree City of the World” status not only acknowledges past achievements but also serves as an important impetus for future initiatives. It reinforces the city’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable urban development.
