Mexico is gearing up for a bustling winter tourist season, with expectations for a significant increase in visitor numbers and economic activity. According to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the country is anticipating 8.7 million hotel guests between December 19, 2024, and January 8, 2025, representing a 2.1% increase compared to the previous year.
Popular destinations such as Cancun, Nuevo Nayarit, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos are expected to see the highest occupancy rates, with some resorts reporting figures as high as 88.6%. Other attractive tourist spots, including Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mazatlán, Mérida, and Querétaro, are also poised for a successful winter season.
This surge in tourism is projected to generate over 263 billion Mexican pesos (approximately 12.8 billion U.S. dollars) in economic activity, marking a 6.2% increase from the previous year. The hospitality sector alone is expected to contribute 20.8 billion pesos (1 billion U.S. dollars), representing a 7.5% growth.
