Air Canada has announced a significant shift in its Mexico strategy, prioritizing Puerto Vallarta as a key cornerstone of its Pacific operations. For the upcoming Summer 2026 season, the airline will double its flight frequency from Vancouver (YVR) to Puerto Vallarta, increasing from once a week to two weekly flights. This move ensures that West Coast travelers have more flexible year-round access to the region, moving beyond the traditional winter-only travel model.
This targeted growth is part of a broader 18% increase in Air Canada’s capacity to Mexico. While other regional projects (like the proposed Tepic route) have been shelved, the airline is reallocating those resources into its most “sought-after” destinations. In addition to the Vallarta boost, travelers in Central Mexico will gain a massive new connection via a year-round direct flight between Montreal and Guadalajara starting June 2, 2026, which provides an alternative entry point for those visiting the Banderas Bay area.
To enhance the passenger experience, Air Canada is also upgrading its onboard service for all Mexico-bound flights this summer. Travelers can expect complimentary beer and wine, premium snacks, and high-speed Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members.
