I am going to P.V. this month and staying at the Costa Vida resort which is just south of town. I have heard that it is a fairly expensive taxi fare from the Airport. I have also heard that if you leave the airport with your luggage and cross the bridge that you can get a cab for a much cheaper rate. Can any one confirm this? and any reviews or suggestions about transportation from this resort or any other helpful tips.

Re:Taxi Fares
Costa Vida is about 2 miles south of town, 10 miles from airport, so not a short cab ride. Near the Camino Real We paid $12 for a cab to south hotel zone recently, so maybe $20 or so to Costa Vida? Usually much less for return since cabs at airport are regulated and more expensive.(You buy your cab ticket at the booth as you come out of customs, on your right). Maybe someone who has stayed in that area will have more info. But, as others have posted, for one ride with all luggage it is not such a big deal, and to lug you bags over the highway seems nuts, and some have said the price is not a big difference now anyway. Pay the price, and enjoy your vacation.
Re:Taxi Fares
I knew Jenny would show up and confirm....I thought $20 USD or so from airport, but 25 sounds about right. And as we all mentioned, the fare from airport really much higher than return. On average the returns are about one third! You can share a van and save, so worth taliking it up with folks arriving, you may get lucky. You pay for extra passengers, but cheaper than going alone.
Re:Taxi Fares
When you pay for the taxi at the airport booth, can you use US dollars or should I exchange some $$ to pesos before I arrive in PV?
Re:Taxi Fares
i always exchange about $35cdn at the Toronto airport before I leave for PV, this way as soon as i get my baggage and go through \"the light\" im ready to go!
Re:Taxi Fares
As soon as you clear customs, there is a Bital bank on your left which has excellent exchange rates, far better than you will get at your departure airport or most places in town.Nikita (Mar 26, 2004 02:15 p.m.):

Besides you want to turn left as soon as you clear customs, if you go straight you run right into the time share booths and sharks. Once you get your pesos, ignore the folks asking where you are staying and head straight for the taxi window and pay for the taxi there. They will give you a receipt that you take outside to where the taxis are waiting.
