renting a car in PV

Started January 14, 2004 · 10,368 views · 6 posts
Hi everyone,
I was told it is not recommended to drive is PV. Is it so difficult to drive there? Is it better to take the insurance offered by the rental company? Your feedbacks on this subject are welcome. Thank you for your help!

Re:renting a car in PV
I always rent a car for at least one day, never had any problems, just like driving in Los Angeles! LOL

Yes, make sure you have the extra insurance offered by the rental car co. My gold card covers it in mexico, so by putting the car on my credit card I get the coverage. Check with your credit card company before you go.

I always rent at Magno Car Rental across the street from the Sheraton, never had a problem there and they are very nice. Their phone # is 22-26546.

Re:renting a car in PV
It may take a little time to get comfortable driving around PV, but eventually you get used to it. However, rental cars are more expensive than in the US/Canada, gasoline in Mexico is expensive at around 6 pesos per liter (over $2 USD per gallon), and finding a decent parking space can be a problem at times in the center of town (and also in some hotel parking lots). Renting a car might be nice if you want to get out on the highway and explore other areas, but a rental car for in-town could spend a lot of time sitting in a hotel parking lot while other forms of transportation (including walking) are used. There is no shortage of taxis and buses in PV :-)
