Driving to Puerto Vallarta and Leaving Car for Future Visits

We are contemplating driving to Puerto Vallarta from Wisconsin when we visit in October. We have an older model Honda that we have been thinking of leaving in Puerto Vallarta so that we have access to our own vehicle for future visits. Has anyone done this and have familiarity with the paperwork involved (licensing the vehicle in Mexico but having a US home address; insurance). Also, if someone has done this, what arrangements have you made for storing your vehicle while you are at home.

Regarding the drive down, our understanding is it will take about four days of drive time. Any travel suggestions that we assure us of getting there safe and sound?

I could be wrong....but believe you can *only* leave a vechile in Mexico for up to 180 days unless you have an FM3.

You can bring it in with an FMT and leave WI plates on it. Only immediate family members can drive it. You will need to get Mexican insurance.
