Bus and Taxi Fare increases

in about 2 weeks bus and taxi fares will increase.
Expect 5 pesos for the bus
The reason sighted is fuel cost, which has increased by 20% from last year, plus a very politically strong union.

Last Thursday the secretary of transportation from Guadalajara told the one union of taxi drivers who started the blockade that they could raise the tarifs if they used meters like they do in GDL. They also gave out at least 15 citations to taxi drivers at the Camino Central who were overcharging the zone rates.

There is more than one taxi union in Vallarta, and not all unions were involved. Currently both sides are in negotiations and will have about six more days to come to a decision.

The bus fare was raised two years ago from 3 pesos to 4 pesos, a 25% increase, and while cheap by our standards is not cheap by the people who rely on public transportation, especially since their standard of living did not increase by 25%.

Either way, there will always be taxis available, so near fear about not being able to get around. The taxis will not strike as drivers need to eat, and they only way they make money is by driving.

I heard through the grapevine that the taxi drivers in GDL have a button they tap that cycles the meter? If meters are installed in PV will they have that button to tap as well? Can make for an expensive trip if the meter is being messed with?

I have taken many cabs in GDL and never had a problem. I just watch the meter. I am sure any cabby anywhere can cheat you, but I am the type of person that watches every item rang at the cashier, so best advice, pay attention.
