What is the Malecon???

Been reading alot about the Malecon, what is it????????????

The malecon is the boardwalk. it is about a mile long stretch of side walk the boarders the beach downtown.

The malecon is a cool place to walk in the evenings. If you walk there on a Sat. evening the place will be full of vendors of all sorts of wonderful things. Roasted ears of corn with lime juice and chili powder, fruits, juices, meats, candies. Lots of interesting people and children also. It is downtown and seperates the shops from the bay, so if you want to avoid some of the TS people walk on the malecon side of the street. Check out the unique sculptures found there also. For a quick idea of what it looks like, look at some of the pictures available on this site (images).

FYI, many Mexican cities located near water have a malecon. They are popular gathering spots for local residents and tourists alike. I like the Puerto Vallarta malecon the best.

Veracruz has a very, very long malecon and you can even rent two-seater pedal cars and bicyles to travel along it. I have nice recollections of many families there, on weekend evenings, with their children riding bicycles and tricycles. The kids were always begging their parents to buy them treats from one of the street vendors. Veracruz is kind of a \"love it or hate it\" kind of a city: the beaches really suck, but the city has other interesting things to offer.

Campeche has a very modern and interesting malecon. Culiacan and Villa Hermosa are not located near the coast, but they have rivers running through them...complete with malecons, also.

especially go down on a sunday evening.... when the locals are out with their families... it is great... it is just a great place to walk and check out the sights and sounds of Vallarta.... you can shop, you can watch people, you can stop and drink eat whatever.... but it is an experience.... Lorrie and i love going down there at night and just hanging out on a bench with an ice cream and people watch... locals, tourists, etc.... it is such a melting pot of people.... Euros, Spanish, Americans, Canadians, etc.... and some of the wardrobes are out of this world....

all this talk about PV makes me soo homesick for the sights and sounds there... and i have only been there once!!!!! not a day goes by that i dont think of wonder PV

Point of information...\"malecon\" is a jetty or sea wall, not a \"boardwalk\". The downtown tourist zone in PV is along this sea wall and is referred to in general as the malecon.
