What form of id do you need to cash travelers checks? Are they easier to cash at a hotel or a bank?

Re:travelers checks
I hear that!!! I just called the hotel to find out how much it will cost...they take 17%! That is crazy!!!!Teduardo (Mar 09, 2005 01:02 p.m.):
Hotels are not known for giving the best exchange rates.
ATMs are a good way to go.
Re:travelers checks
I stopped using travelers checks a long time ago. I always bring cash and a visa card. No problems exchanging the cash at the casa de cambios and at usally a very good rate and no commision. Plastic for big meals or for use at the duty free shops at the airport on departure.

Re:travelers checks WARNING
the name on the travler checks MUST be exactly the same as on the passporte! One can not be John J, Smith & the other John Jake Snith. Trust me this is a hard & fast rule!
Re:travelers checks
It seems that I am the only person in the world without an ATM card.
