Travel tips?

Hi was wondering if it is reccomende to get a heppatitis A shot before going to Mexico?
Also is it a good idea to get some tanning sessions in to establish a base,and prevent burning?
Im from Canada.
I also heard beware of the stingrays,my sister got stung by one in shallow water.Is it neccessary to wear wet socks?Any feedback would be appreciated.Thxs

I asked the same question concerning the shot before we left. The answer is you can, but it is pretty expensive. Here in the states it would have cost us $75.00 each. And there is 2 shots in the series. We just returned from our first visit this past week, we had no problems. As long as you practice safe hand washing and watching where you put your hands, you should be all set. PV restaurants want to continue getting customers, they are not going to be able to do that if they are dirty.

I accidently stood on a stingray at the Marina area in about 15 inches of water. It went into my Achellis tendon ,and I have never felt pain like it,I limped badly for 3 months.
Iwas told later to shuffle your feet ,the stingrays will then get out of your way. If you do get stung ,run water as warm as you can stand, over the wound for about 1/2 hour.If some of the sheath from the stinger is still in the wound get medical attention.
Re Hepatitis Get \"TWINRIX\",you need 3 injections,in Vancouver B.C. I paid 50.35$CAN for each injection.This vacination is prudent no matter where you go.
It did not prevent me from going into the water again.

Washing ones hands will not prevent Hepatitis.
You have no control over the hand washing practices of other possibly infected people (this applies no matter where you travel or live )
TWINREX is a combined Hepatitis A & B vacination ,and IMO a cheap , certain ,prevention.

Iwould think any of the thousands of people who got hepatitis from blood transfusions and or blood products would wish that they had been vacinated.
