I called the Consulate and talked to them. A notirized copy of your BC will suffice with a drivers license. But I am leaving Sunday for PV so I will update when I return

Dirvers license + official issued (not just a xeroxed copy) birth certificate. You will be given the tourist card form on the plane to fill out.

The above will get you in to the country, but the suggestion to get a passport if you have time is an excellent one.

You are mistaken, as of the last few months or so, most banks in PV are asking for a passport to cash travelers checks as it is easier for them to document larger amounts of money brought in via travelers checks. (They are starting to track checks cashed by passport number to crack down on people illegally bringing in unclaimed amounts of money.)

In the future, I have heard all banks and cambios here will require a passport for all travelers checks to be cashed. And.....it will not be long that most countries will require a passport for entry.

Remember, I live here so I am pretty up to date with what is happening. What you experienced last trip, to even yesterday can change on the drop of a dime....kinda like the weather.

Just returned to Canada last week and found out to cash travellers cheques at the bank you did require a passport. We had American Express travellers cheques & had to cash them at the American Express office as we only had drivers license & birth certificates.

Hi all...

Just got back today from PV. All we had to present was a notirized copy of the Birth Certificate and photo ID (Drivers license is what we used).

No problems entering or exiting back to the USA.
