Tipping in PV

To all you PV experts, what is the word on tipping in Puerto Vallarta? What is the norm for room service at a three or four star Hotel, per week, if any. And what percentage is expected in the PV restaurants, for a well served meal. Would one get a better room by offering some doneros at time of check-in?

On a humorous note, I just returned from Managua, Nicaragua, which is not quite the tourist destination that Puerto Vallarta is. After a week of being a generous tipper in the restaurants, I realized that in Nicaragua a \"voluntary\" ten percent tip is customarily included in the bill total. That made me a VERY generous tipper indeed. Oh well, the universe will not be thrown out of balance if someone tips a little bit too much in a country where many people really need the money.

What we did for tips was left one USD at breakfast and lunch and 2 at dinner. We usually gave the tip directly to the most attentive waiter. We would give 2 USD to the bartender when we arrived and our drinks never! were empty. Before we left to go to PV my wife went to one of the dollar stores and purchased a couple of coffee mugs, pens , pencils, key chains, etc with a Canadian flag on them and we we leave something everyday plus 2 uSD for the maid. We would return in the evening to our room and our towels would be folded into shaoes of swans with flower pedals in the shape of hearts on our bed. We would have fresh flowers everday in our room. The day we left, the maid gave us! a card and hand drawn picture from her children thanking us. For us rich? Canadians a couple of dollars a day was nothing, after all we were able to spend a couple of thousand on a holiday.
