Should we use $$$ or pesos?

Re:Should we use $$$ or pesos?
Thanks for all of that great information. Just one more question so I am totally prepared. I understand receiving bills at restaurants, etc. in pesos but are you saying that even the street vendors and taxis (anyone who deals in small amounts) will quote me in pesos?. That is the only area I am still confused about because my experience in two other Mexican towns has been that the restaurants and a few stores will have the prices written in pesos but small vendors, beach bars, taxis, etc. always quote in dollars, (when they see you are from the US) or have a sign with both prices posted.. I know I am getting technical I just want to be prepared. Would having both be a bad idea or a good idea? Thanks again.

Everything is in \"Pesos\" in PV. The currency of Mexico is the Peso. If vendors receive other currencies, they have to do the exchange. It is simpler and better for everyone to use Pesos.

OK....pesos it is. Thanks.

Susana,

Good point about the big peso notes that you sometimes get from the ATM machines. In Puerto Vallarta, I roughly try to manage my money into three catagories:

1) big peso notes (200 and 500 pesos) for when I go to a big store or business. They can easily change the big notes.

2) smaller peso notes (20, 50, 100 pesos) for the smaller businesses (and some tipping).

3) change (20 pesos and less) for tipping people like the kids who sack your groceries at the store.

I just want to thank everyone for taking time to help. (This info helps me to not be a dumb tourist, but every once and a while it happens.:) Every time I travel I find that spending time on the message boards is invaluable.....not only for their help but to remind me that there are so many great people out there willing to take their own time to help others have a great time.

I feel totally organized and ready to go now. I only have one last question and it is about the amt. of people in the taxis. (then again, I will probably think of something)That will be my next post.

Adios! Only 17 days till PV!

Usually 4, three in the back one in the front. Three oin the back can be tight if your a big beer drinker like me LOL! you can find larger cabs at hotels (suburban or vans) but have never found any in town.
