It is pretty accurate. You were lucky when you were there in August, but I had that happen one year in August too.
Generally when they say rain, what happens is around 4 or 5 in the afternoon the clouds start building up and it will generally start to rain shortly after that. It may last a 1/2 hour, it may last a few hours or it can last all night. But in the morning 99% of the time it stops by 8 or 9 a.m. and you have the entire day rain free, unless there is an actual storm sitting off the coast somewhere.
You can get anywhere from a few sprinkles to a torrential downpour and usually about the time you want to go out to dinner. So you might want to consider packing an umbrella or you can just enjoy the tropical rain, you dry out really fast.:lol: They also have the most amazing lightening shows.
It is hot and it is humid but it has never kept me from not going in July. As long as you can take the heat and high humidity, go you will have a great time.
