Need opinions/recommendations

I am planning our first trip to PV. Please give me any opinions/recommendations on which area of town to stay in. I was looking at Nuevo Vallarta -- is this too far away from downtown to enjoy restaurants, shopping, nightlife -- or Marina Vallarta or the hotel zone, how are those areas? Also, which months are the best and WORST to visit due to weather conditions (rain/hurricane season, etc.) The months I was considering were June, July, Aug, Sept. and December. ANY help/insight is appreciated!! Many thanks!

I have been to PVR in May, Dec, & Feb, all have been good. I prefer the location of the Sheraton, a ten minute cab to Old Town.
I have stayed at the Marina and North of the airport and am returning to the Sheraton in two weeks. I prefer the cookie cutter hotels, my wife does not want to cook, and like the restaurant and night life in town, and do not want long rides to get there.

if you want to veg out... then stay in Nuevo Vallarta... but if you want to be part of the party of Vallarta... then stay in the Hotel zone.. you are 5 minutes by taxi... or a good 45 minute walk from Crown Paradise, or 30 minute walk from the shereton... we love the Golden Crown Paradise... we will be there in two weeks for 10 days... we love february to get away from the cold and snow of iowa... granted right now we are having unseasonably warm weather for jan and feb... but wait 5 mintues and it will change...

summer months are \"cheaper\" than primetime... but whatever time you go... you will have a good time... Vallarta is the place to bee... and we have stayed at Sandals Montego Bay Jamaica five times... Sorry Butch, but you priced yourself right out of reach for us... two weeks in Vallarta is the price of 5 days in Jamiaca right now.... now where would you like to spend your money...

have a good one... whatever you decide
Re:Need opinions/recommendations
Of the months you listed, December would likely have the most pleasant weather.

olla, we just returned from pv on the 19th feb, it was our first time in mexico. must dos are the dolphins swim in neuvo , also the parasaillinf offered on the beaches in pv, are great for 30. $ us. the canopy excursion with the vallarta tours is very good and safe. cost around 65.us. the best one we took was the caletas day cruise tour cost 70 us. all inclusive drinks and your food on the island, its a breathtaking 6 to 7 hr day. very very worst it. go to the www.valarta adventures web site and see what they offer. pipis and carlos obrian and( burros which is on the beach) are the best places to eat and drink lots of magartias and beers are very cheap every where, lots of happy hours there. do lots of barganing before you buy anything, .have fun, wish we were going back right now.

We first stayed in Nuevo vallerta our first time many years ago, and I agree its to far from town now we stay at GIrasol sur we rent from private owners, It is a quite place ocean front room only. With a resturant in front and a beach on each side. We love it if you would like the information on how to rent please email me I would be happy o share the information. We find it much cheaper to rent and do part of your own cooking
