What is the best way to make calls to home from PV? I am staying at Crown Paradise.Do I need a phone card of some sort or can I just call directly from my room?

Re:Making calls to home from PV
Do not make any long distance calls from your hotel--the charges are outrageous! Buy phone cards--maybe someone can tell you which one is the best.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
Check to see if your cell phone service provides roaming in Mexico, I know Cingular does.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
My Altell cell phone also roam in Puerto Vallarta. I do take it with me on vacation but keep it off most of the time.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
I use Cingular while in PV to call home. Not super cheap, but beats the Hell out of the cost through the Hotel. I will say however, that the clarity is perfect. Last year I brought an old Nokia Cell and had them put in a prepaid card at Ladatel that I used both for local and calling the US. Best deal of all.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
Can anybody tell me if a tracfone will work to call home to the US from PV ?
A company called InterTelCel.Com is offering unlimited calls to the USA and Canada from their cellular phone. It also works like NexTel in that it has an intercom feature if you rent 2 units. They give you a USA telephone number, and the phone has 3-way calling, call waiting, caller ID (yes, for all numbers from the USA), and unlimited voicemail. You can go to www.InterTelCel.Com to see their offerings.
You can now also get ahold of USA/CANADA Toll Free Directroy Assistance from anywhere in Mexico by simply dialing 01800-555-1212. They offer the same thing as their USA version --- phone numbers for anywhere in the USA or Canada.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
InterTelCel charges $60 U.S. per week for the service.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
I was in Pto. Vallarta in April and I made 4 calls to canada from there for about 20 min total and it cost me over $88.00 CDN. That to me is a rip off!!! Next time I will be using email instead of calling. There must be a cheaper way to go about it, I just was not aware before hand. These calls were made from my hotel room. I hear that is the worst place to call from. I have definately learned a lesson for next time.
Re:Making calls to home from PV
we are going to PV next week and my husband called our cell service, Verizon, here in Houston; for only $20.00 we are now on a North American coverage plan for the next month. They have several minute programs available. Check it out with your current cell service provider; they probably offer the North American coverage.
Will let you know when we return if it worked well.
