is it safe at night?

Hello! Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me any info! We will be leaving for Pueto Vallarta on Friday and am much looking forward to it! We are staying a couple nights downtown right on the Malecon. Is it safe in that area? Can we walk around there at night ? Is Yelapa worth the trip? What about Sayulito? Any feedback is much appreciated!!! Thanks!

As a woman I feel perfectly safe walking around PV after dark. I know a number of single women who travel there alone and also feel very comfortable walking around alone after dark. There are always the tourista police (dressed in an all white uniform) around as well. I would not walk on the beach after dark however.

It has been a number of years since I have been to Yelapa but it is a beautiful spot. I am sure you would enjoy a day trip there. You can catch a water taxi to there from Boca. Take the bus to Boca.

Have not been to Sayulito yet. On my list of future adventures.

I am just curious about the beach at night. I have been to PV twice and never thought twice about walking down the beach no matter the time. If anyone has a story about a bad experience after dark please reply.

The last time I was in PV, a tourist was assaulted at about 11 PM in the back part of the parking lot next to the downtown McDonalds. Its a little dark back there. The assailant used only physical force: no weapons were involved. His big mistake was that the tourist was a Chicago cop, who quickly overpowered.

Is PV safe at night, of course it is if you use common sense. A dark deserted beach alone at night is not a good place to be no matter what country you are in. Does crime happen on the beach at night after dark, yes it does. If you ask most of the locals they will tell you they do not hang out on the beach alone at night. Alot of the resorts light up their beaches at night for their guests to enjoy, but a dark deserted beach is like being in a dark deserted mall parking lot, is it some plce you would hang out in?

I took it to mean the parking that is outside the walk up window, but that street is not usually deserted at 11 PM at night. Only other place I was thinking it would be would across the street on the beach side but again that is only street parking, there are no parking lots like you said.
