How long can I stay legally in Mexico

The maximum days allowed is 180 on an FMT. When you go thru immigration you have to ask for the 180 days if you need it or like Mogens says they probably will only put 30 days on it.

Thanks for all the info...one other question...what is a FMT, FM3?

Not necessarily, it is simply another option. The advantage to an FM-2 is that after renewing it consecutively for five years, you become eligible to immigrate into the country.
