Once you secure hotel reservations, you should be ok. There are a lot of people during this time, but the average Mexican tourist will most likely be on a more economical vacation agenda than the international tourist: fewer/no meals at the tourist-oriented restaurants, low-cost/free activities instead of guided tours, etc. Certainly there are many Mexicans with a lot of money to enjoy any vacation of their choosing, but in general, Puerto Vallarta is an expensive vacation destination for average Mexican wage earner. I think that there is enough space for everyone to have a good time.
