Hepatitis

I have been going to Mexico (P.V. twice ) for around 6 years and have never got sick or worried about what I was eating or drinking.Alot of the AI resorrts are owned and operated (i hear) by Canadians so do you think they would jeopardize their guests by serving bad food or getting people sick. I just listened to all the warnings and went and had a great time with no worries!!I do agree with washing your hands alot but that was more about catching a cold because there is always a few at the resorts with young kids and runny noses! Thats why I leave mine at home!! :D :D

Ditto the above comments. We avoid coleslaw and we are careful about where we eat salads because the lettuce is often from outside PV and can be the source of infection. In the main restaurants it is no problem. Dont eat raw fruit unless you wash it to remove insecticides.
That is a pretty standard warning that is given to people when traveling outside the U.S. If there is a case anywhere in the country then the whole country gets included. We did get our shots when we went to Haiti, but never really worried about that in travels to P.V. Even when we went to Haiti our doctor told us that the shots were not really necessary unless we were going to spend a lot of time in the country and/or going to be in more remote locations with limited ammenities. That being said, if it would make you feel better to have them, then do it.
microdyn
microdyn is a mild liquid chlorine
rinse your lettuce with tap water
then put in bowl filled with tap water
put in two or three drops of microdyn
let sit for about twenty or ten minutes
then rinse with bottle water to get rid of the chlorine taste of microdyn
after all that place in frige for a crispy salad..

we have been doing this for the last forty years
a habit

also been drinking garrafon bottled water
they are all good
pepsi sells soritini
cocacola sells ciel
there a several others
mitchell
aqua pura

another old habit

sure the water from our local seapal is great
but most old or even newer places have old plumbing
with aljibes(underground tank) with pumps to a tinaco(roof tank)
that is gravity fed
these tanks are the problems

chico
\"eat only in the resort unless its prepackaged foods\"

May I ask why you feel the resort is safer than eating at a restaurant?

Food sitting in steam trays and under heat lamps sound scarier to me.

sanitary sources and laws in jallisco
let me add my 2 cents in here

1 sanitary commission paid me a visit a few weeks ago
ill say this ... the rules in jallisco are very similar to those in canada, and from my past experiences with these rules there job is to make certain that people do not get sick

i purchaed an ice machine for my restaurant because i was tired of buying ice with sand in it
NO KIDDING!!!!!!!!

the sanitary board makes you get a lab report on your ice every month or so

ok now about microdyne

this liquid is NOT chlorine

it is a sanitiser which consists of IODINE

iodine is the strongest and believe it or not the safest for humans to digest

QUATINARY SANITISER IODINE IS PRODUCED FROM A NATURAL SOURCE

the source believe it or not is seaweed go figure

let me give you an example when you cook shell fish it changes from a dark color to a red color

reason!!!!!!!! 92 % less chloriphil in the greens!!!!

quatinary sanitiser can kill bacteria and pathogens very quickly

without getting into harms way of us humans

ok now about the salads and fruit

here is a neet question to all

when you go shopping for tomatoes lime lemons and many other forms of produce you probably are not aware of the source

hecho in mexico

now when yoour at home do you always wash your lettuce or other products

even though we should we often dont ouch!!!!

no matter what country you are from it is always the safest practice to use

besides running a foodservice operation here in mexico is no easy chore

making sure people dont get sick is even harder because sometimes you have to do it yourself because your afraid the employess will forget

if anyone has any food safety concerns or questions regarding the laws around hygiene practices here in pv ill be happy to assist

Hep A & B
I just talked to my public health org. and they say that the hep A&B shots are good for life. So why not protect yourself for travel as well as those questionable resturaunts at home. Vacations, and livers, are too nice to ruin.
I had heard the Twinrix is only good for 10 years. Then you need to get them again.

Take care.
