Going in April

Started November 14, 2005 · 22,367 views · 13 posts
A group of ten friends is going either the 8th of April, or the 15th of April for a week. I know Easter falls on the 16th and have heard that Easter is a big holiday in Mexico.

Should we expect the resorts to be packed with nationals. If so, would it be better for us to stay closer to town in a smaller resort, or farther away in a slightly bigger resort.

Mexican Nationals will fill just about any resort... They are very knowlegable travelers as well. We have lots of them stay at the GCP, and we have a lot of them out at the Hotel Sierra in Nuevo Vallarta... Many of these travelers come from Mexico City, and other interior cities. It all depends... you just have to find a resort that caters to your needs, do you want ala carte, do you want all-inclusive, do you want european plan, are there other needs you may have in health issues (climbing stairs etc) or do you want to be downtown partying all the time... and if you are going to travel about in a pack, then i would suggest the down town hotels and resorts, or some of the bigger condo and time shares in Old Town, settle in and party on....

good luck...

Santa Semana
With a large group I would just be sure you have a reservation somewhere! Easter is a very busy time in PV at small hotels and resorts alike.

I have been in PV during Easter and I am avoiding the Easter period this year and will also do so in the future years. PV is busting at the seams during the Easter period. When I was there it was estimated that 60,000 people would visit PV and its surrounding areas. People come by the plane loads, bus loads, car and truck loads. The hotels are overflowing and you will see people sleeping in all types of vehicles as well as tenting. The beach is overly crowded, and all restaurants, clubs are packed. The traffic is unreal and the noise level is high. It is difficult to enjoy many areas of shopping, as well as the Malecon, especially at night. Should none of this bother you ,go during Easter but keep in mind that it is ESSENTIAL to have SECURED hotel reservations. Also be aware that during the Easter period there are HIGHER RATES for hotels. PV is safe but be aware the pick pocketing can occur when in crowded areas and that is not safe to leave articles unattended on the beach. You need to know that drug possession, of the smallest amount, can land you in serious trouble, and the laws, and they way in which they operate, are not even close to those of the US or Canada. You can have a vacation of a life time in PV. but please remember that you are in a foreign country
and that its laws apply to you, as a visitor. Have a wonderful trip !

I would strongly suggest that you stay in the centre of the town or in old town south of the river. Either location will allow you to walk numberous clubs, bars and more eating places than you will have time to try. There are some lovely hotels in these ares at reasonable rates and you are basically taxi free.
We are going April 1-8. Will we hit the crowds also?
We are going April 1-8. Will we hit the crowds also? You should miss the biggest crowds. You will be leaving the day is should start to get really busy but the way the season has being going so far one just never knows.

PV during the month of April
Hello all! I will be arriving for my first PV trip on April 22; will the crowds be crazy during the last week of April? Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jane

Hi Jane, the weekend that you arrive will probably still be quite busy but after that things should calm down quite a bit at least I hope so because I will be arriving on the 24th.

Have a great trip
This picture was taken by Sioux4noff during Easter 2005. It will give you any idea of how crazy it just is over Easter.

Hi Lori,
Are you staying at the GCP? It would be cool to meet people that I have been talking to on the message board. 8)
Thanks again for your advice...

My husband and I are taking our two grown young adults (26 and 24) with us to PV April 27-May 8. We have booked at Plaza Mar... can anyone recommend a good beach club nearby... with buckets of ice cold cervasas? :P
