If you happen to be in PV Dec 1-12 (the 12th is the biggest night) go to the activities surrounding the Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the evenings. There are parades with groups of all kinds (schools, civic, religious, businesses) from PV and other neighboring areas -- floats, song, dance, drum & bugle corps, mariachi, costumes, candles. Also homemade cakes/pies/fried bananas/corn... food booths set up for the occasion. Cotton candy, balloons, toys, etc. for sale by wandering vendors. It is a wonderful opportunity to participate in something very \"real\" and meaningful to the local people during your trip. You can find specific information at the church office next to the cathedral and/or tourist bureau off the main zocolo.
