But the important question is: How many pesos did you get for 1,000USD?

The amount of pesos that you get depends on the exchange rate at the time of the transaction.

When we were in PV, May 2002, we found the best rate of exchange at the Airport! There is a booth in the entry/exit area, which makes it very convenient, especially if you have a weekend arrival. My brother had checked with his local bank, and they told him the airport had the better rate. Maybe someone can check it out and see if it is still better.
Re:Exchanging money
Correct, the exchange at the airport always has the best rate.

I have heard the same thing from many people: that place at the airport has the best rate. The American Express office usually has an excellent rate, also. They are on Abasalo, up the hill from the Hard Rock Café. The rate at the little cambios (store front exchanges) is usually a little less, and the rate at your hotel is generally the worst.
