Hola Dave! Sorry to hear about such a cruddy ending to what was probably a great holiday. Must have been pretty stressful trying to get out of the country without tourist card, photo id, etc.

Did they have an in-room safe where you stayed - did they break into that, or were you forced to do the old wallet under the mattress gig? Just curious.

Our bed and breakfast inn had a security type door on Amapas and one on the beach. Unforturnately these were propped open most days by guests coming and going. No other in-room or lobby type of security boxes available to my knowledge. The place came highly recommended including by one of our friends who stayed there a month in October. We had packed and staged our bags in the room waiting for the taxi. My wallet was in my (zippered) carry on bag on our dresser.
