We just heard from the Crown Paradise Resort today that they are closing for five weeks and they are cancelling/refunding our reservations.

Real Status of the Crown Paradise
This message is in respond to the message posted by jdknudson. My name is Ana Ramirez and I am the Public Relations Manager at the Crown Paradise, based in Puerto Vallarta. I am really sad to see that the information is been misplaced. Our hotel never closed its operation, and it is true that we had damages, but there were caused by the tides. The building has not structural damages and most of the work that we have is cleaning. The pool has been already cleaned and we are only waiting for some pieces to replace there, expecting to have the pool operating this friday. The main restaurant, as well as one of the specialties restaurants and two of the bars are in full operation. The damages we had were on 12 rooms located on the ground level, replacement of the carpet at one of the specialties restaurant, and general cleaning of the tennis courts. The disco is operating normally, shows are performed as usual, and the electrical energy and potable water are being supplied, as well as the air conditioned in all the rooms. The only thing we are missing is the hot water in rooms, therefore we expect to have it ready by this week end. I would appreciate if Mr. or Mrs. jkknudson could e-mail me in order to provide him or her a detailed explanation of the situation of the hotel.
Thank you very much for your attention, should you need any further information or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
Kindest regards from Puerto Vallarta

Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Thank you all for the information you have provided. Someone has evidentally given me the incorrect information. I certainly do not intend to give a false report. It has definately been very difficult to get accurate information on the situation. I apologize for offending anyone and will research things further.
Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Hola, Anna. Como esta. Sorry to see that your lovely city was hit by the storm but I was glad to also see that the Crown Paradise was not hurt to badly. I have seen your staff bring your resort back up to 100% in very little time. This is one of the reasons we always stay at the CP. Hope to see you soon. Current Status of Puerto Vallarta
Hola Chuck, Kay, Gary and jdknudson:
Greetings from the now cleaned beaches of Puerto Vallarta!
Thank you all for all your messages. Mr. Nudson, please be not worried, we know that there are lots of rumora spread all over the internet, and that there are exaggerated news coverages that reported in the States and Canada about the state of condition of Puerto Vallarta after the hurricane and it is normal to have lot of inaccurate information. I am going to provide you some new information about the destination. This is a copy of a mail that I received from someone who owns a house at the downtown area:
\"a) Puerto Vallarta sustained damage along a stretch of beachfront between the Malecon and the Hotel Zone. These areas were mostly affected due to the trajectory of the hurricane. The damage will no doubt be substantial in terms of Dollars, as the value of the property along the coastline is some of the most valuable in Mexico. But the number of properties affected compared to the entire community is a mere fraction of the town as a whole. The Weather Channel reported the next day that while the coastline was suffering, the 95% of Vallarta remained virtually unaffected.
b) Not one deadth has been reported in Puerto Vallarta as a result of the storm. This is not only a testament to the oefficiency of emergency and rescue crews along the coast of the Bay of Banderas, but also further evidence that the hillside and flatland communities of this beautiful jungletown were untouched by this event.
c) Many, if not most, of the firs-floor businesses on the Malecon were affected by the storm. However, only two days afterward, establishments wee already opening for business. Airline service is back to full operating capacity at the airport. All roads are open, INCLUDING the Malecon.
d) Electricity service has been intentionally turned off to most, if not all, of the city by the electric company in order to avert any unwarranted damage or injuries to individuals. The service remained off during the storm and within a couple hours virtually all households and businesses had power again. Telephone service also was available during the entire storm.
e) With the obvious exception of parts of the Malecon and certain beachfront establishments, restaurants, clubs and stores are open for businesses, as is the rest of the town\"
That can provide you a better idea of the current status of our town, and I hope this answers any concerns you may have had about your beloved Puerto Vallarta and how we are doing now that the sun is shining. I will also keep you posted with the new things at the hotel.
My very best,
Ana

Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Ana,
Thanks for your updates. But you neglected to answer the previous question about the beach clean up. Can we all assume by your failing to comment that the beach is not cleaned up? If it is cleaned up I know everyone would appreciate knowing that.
Thanks,
CD

Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Hola my friends:
First of all, I would like to apologize if my last e-mail made you feel that the beach of our resort was not cleaned yet. I have been receiving lots of e-mails, and I was unable to check the messages here. I am really sorry for the inconveniences you could have due to this.
Our beach is in excellent conditions. The size remained the same (not bigger, not shorter). The sand quality did not suffer changes and the beach is swimmable. We have available beach chairs for our guests. The only thing we are missing now are the yellow canopes (umbrellas) that are going to be replaced within the next week.
Thanks for keeping in contact with me, and I promise to check my messages here more often.
My warmest regards to all of you...

Ana,
Your information has been so helpful, I sent you an email to the resort yesterday as we are planning on coming back (3rd trip) in January and wanted to know the conditions. Please let us know when the beach bar will re-open, you said you had to get new beach chairs, did you also get the stripped pads for them? oh, they made lounging so comfortable. We were last there May 2002, Is the resort still all inclusive with room service, and hopefuly sushi at 6pm at the beach bar? Will wait for your reply.

Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Hola,Ana muchas gracias por la informacion respecto de Dany. His Mommy was concerned about being sad when we come to the CP again after the first of the year and not seeing him, even though we love everyone at your resort it would seem strange not to see him doing his thing around and in the pool area. We would also miss his being in the shows at night. Bien suerte y gracias tambien.

Hola MHan!
Thanks for your note! I am happy to hear that you are planning to come back with us!
a) Regarding the beach bar, probably we are going to have it open by the end of the next week. It is sure that is going to be ready when you come back, but anyway, I will put a post on this board when we have it.
b) Fortunately we did not loose the beach chairs with the hurricane (were put in a safe place prior to the storm), so all of them are available now. The canopOur ies (the stripped pads you are referring) are also available at this moment.
c) Our resort is still All Inclusive, and the program still includes the Room Service 24 hours and the sushi bar is going to be re-opened as soon as we have the beach bar working again. Please be not worried, when you come to Vallarta again, you will see that everything is normal as the last time.
Thanks for your time on writing us some lines here. And if I can be of any assistance, please let me know. See you in January...
Ana

Hola everybody!
Just a quick note, to let you know that we re-opened our Beach bar The Breeze (the palapa at the beach) since Monday, December 9th, 2002. The snack bar is operating as before Kenna, offering continental breakfast in the morning, deli bar at noon time, and sushi bar from 18:00 to 22:00 hrs.
Now, we can say our hotel is back to normal again... Thank you all for your patience and your support.

Ana

Re:Crown Paradise Resort
Hola Chancy:
Thanks for your note. The beach is completely open, the yellow canopies (umbrellas) are ready; these last days we had a high tide because of the moon, but now is back to normal. The Playa de Oro opened one section only (the one they use for Time Share). They were not opening the hotel completely yet because as they suffered damages on their kitchens, they could not offer food to their guests. They have now a couple of their restaurants open, and they were expecting to have all of them ready for the first week of january. If I realize that is going to be open before, I will let you know.
Thanks! And I hope to see you back in paradise soon...
