credit card theft

i was in pv the first week of march. i have been going there since 1984. i got a call from citibank yesterday. someone had gotten my credit card number and had been trying to use it. i had heard of this before but i was alway careful. i used it in 5 restuarants and at the banamex on alta olas in old town. i have emailed the restuarants and banamex to let them know. i let citibank know when i was going down there. from now on i will be sure to let them know when i am back. their fraud unit caught it. nice work citibank.

I had never really thought about letting the Credit Card company know when and where you will be in PV, (or away-period.) I have read it before, but the import is just now settling in. Thanks for the reminder, we will do just that when we return this December.

We avoided using credit cards the entire trip... We used our bank card daily at the same Banamex machine on Olas Altas in the old town. Took out the cash we would need for the day and never worried about our number getting into the wrong hands.

Do not carry a large amount of cash at anytime , travellers cheques or bank cards make a lot more sense and are a lot safer . As for the airport ....at customs there is the green lite /red lite show.....push a button go on green on red they search one bag ...make it your smallest one...in 8 years of going I have always got green , never heard of anyone losing money or valuables here the airport people have always treated us profesionally the policia on the other hand are another story try and not to have anything to do with local cops if you can avoid it that is a whole other post ....have a great vacation....

We learned three years ago not to use credit cards anywhere in Mexico except at our hotel. Our credit card theft department was doing their job when they alerted us to someone using our credit card number to purchase groceries. We now let our credit card company know when we will be in Mexica and the hotel that we will our card at.
