I just used the cabs and they worked out just fine, and it was inexpensive. As for plugs, they work cause i brought an electric razor there

A cab froom Punta Mita will be very expensive if you are going to go into PV frequently. In Aug it cost us 120 to 130 pesos from Nuevo. From Punta Mita it will be a lot more. If you rent a car, do it over the internet before you leave. You will get a cheaper rate. You can pick it up at the airport for the week or you could rent one for just a few days and pick it up at your resort. Good Luck and Have a great time.

As sioux4noff said, \"Our gold American Express covers the CDW\".
--------------------------------------------------------------
Check with American Express, but I believe that their rules are:
1) you have to use your American Express card to rent the car -> obvious huh!
2) you have to DECLINE the CDW offered by the rental car company -> not as obvious

Note that AMEX does NOT cover personal liability or injury, you must pay for that option yourself. Your US/Canada insurance coverage may not be any good in Mexico and you will be in a world of trouble if you get into an accident in Mexico with no insurance!
Re:Car rental or pub tran ?
Thanks everyone for all your help...holiday now over and back home. We finally ended up doing a bit of everything. i.e. Took and enjoyed the use of pub transit from Pta de Mita to PV and back (18 pesos each way) but also finally broke down and rented a car for four days in order to broaden our coverage of the area and give us some unfettered freedom.
Ended up dealing with Hertz (near the airport)and found Monica to be very helpful. Also found Hertz rates to be much better than Alamo which was right next door.
Thanks again to everyone....BeeJay.
