I agree. I believe the name is Ladatel which should be on a pay phone. There is a problem with some resorts which are out of town. Their pay phones are not hooked up to Ladatel. They may have a note saying there is no service charge. That may be the case but the rate will still be higher. Last year at the Mayan Riviera we used a hotel phone and they would only accept Mastercard or American Express. They would not hook you up to a Canadian operator. In PV you are OK as thwere are pay phones and internet access. On the east side you may have to wait until you get to Playa del Carmen or another location away from your hotel.

When I was down in january we emailed our kids and the guys at work the hotel phone number and room number, we set times for them to call us. It worked great, 12 minute calls to Kelowna BC Canada $5.37
