alcohol on the streets

Alcohol on the streets is against the law and has been for years. Our previous Mayor made a point of making everyone aware of it by having banners put up along the malecon with the slogan \"The streets are NOT an open bar\". It was enforced but mainly with Mexicans which was unfair to say the least but they did enforce the law with everyone when people had glass bottles or were obviously intoxicated. It is still against the law but the banners are down and it is not quite as \"watched\".

Makes me wonder why they have those storefront bars that sell the one liter drinks in the foam takeout glasses if drinking in public places is against the law. Stew I know your take on the whole alcohol issue but the reality is , if you are a tourist and not being an a##hole drinking in public places will be tolerated if not encouraged.

i think you would be refering to the \"cow beers.\"

There are a few liter bars in the downtown area, all with seating. Of course these cups can be taken \"to go\" and they are not as frowned upon as glass containers, plus, you just never know what is inside of the \"cow cup\" as it disguises the beverage. Since I do not drink, I once in a while will stop at one liter bar and grab a sugar-free limonada sans alcohol to go.
Best bet, just do not walk around with beer bottles. Use a to-go cup if you can...many of the tiendas (Six Tecates) will put your beer in a cup and then you do not have to pay the depsoit on the bottle.

Oh! By the Way it is also illegal in the state of Nevada. ..and very strictly enforced in vegas
