Just wondering about the \"mandatory\" liability insurance that the rental car companies are charging now.
I used to be able to get out of it, using the insurance provided by my credit card company....but I am being tols it is a \"Government Policy\" to add their own insurance....typically 11 to 13 bucks a day.

Anyone know rhe real scoop on this?

Either way, I think it would be a good idea to get the insurance. This is especially true since you will be driving in a foreign place. One small mistake could prove costly without it. I would be concerned about injury while there, whether driving or not. Has anyone considered atlas america insurance?
Because Mexico is a Roman Law country, you are considered guilty until proven innocent. So you will be held in prison until the courts determine liability even if you are not at fault. Mexico insurance provides a lawyer on call to arrive at the scene and take repsonsibility for you. Make sure you have the number to call when you are driving. It is usually an 800 number.
