Passports recommended for travel to Mexico
By Expedia.ca staff
Expedia.ca has learned that in some cases, Canadians returning to Canada from Mexico are being requested to show passports as proof of identification.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada advises that,
Although a passport is not required for entry into Mexico, most airlines departing from Mexico are now refusing boarding to Canadians returning to Canada without a valid passport. We strongly recommend that Canadians carry a valid passport for all air travel to Mexico in order to ensure they may board their return flight to Canada.

Passport Power
My niece and her boyfriend were turned back from retuning to Canada at the Mexico City airport early this summer . They were traveling without passports . It took 4 days to get emergency passports . We had warned them and pleaded with them to get passports but they are young and stupid . It sure caused a lot of unnecessary worry and grief for both families .
I just got my passport. **WHEW**
