How to get the best flight when booking on line.

Maybe bad timing to follow the emergency landing with another airport article but this one is more useful.

I finally got tired of not understanding what I was doing when booking on line flights. This time I spent a couple of days at it. The result will be a series of articles on how to get the best results. You can read the first one here:

The next article in the series focuses on the effect of timing. We find that advance booking of 45 to 60 days is preferred for travel in peek periods. We also see price reductions that would suggest that you do not want to book too early especially when you have flexibility in the day you travel. High season starts the end of Oct and ends around the beginning of June. The middle to end of June starts rainy season and it lasts until about the 1st of Oct. Humidity drops as do the temps around the middle of Oct. It looks like if you go the end of March you will be there for the entire rainy/low season.

Rumor has it Mexicana may start flying again in Jan. That may give you another option from SFO.

I find the best and easiest way to find low fares is to sign up for fare alerts. Then you get an alert everytime the fare drops from your city to your destination. Saves alot of time searching. I also use Kayak.com alot to find fares for particular time frames/dates.

I have found the postal service to be a crap shoot at best. One friend had a P.O. box at the post office and got everything I sent down. My business partner got a P.O. box at another location (the original PV post office) and they also issued it to \"at least four other people\" during the time he had it. He is still looking for the person wearing the fishing T-shirts I sent him. LOL

The best solution that I have heard of is to go to Mail Boxes, Etc. and rent a P.O. box. Then get a P.O. box in the U.S. and have everything forwarded down to Mexico via MBE. I think they send a delivery down about once a week. Not 100% of those time frames but that is what some ex-pats have done down there.
