The wind is expected to pick up this afternoon gusting to over 60 km/hr causing near-zero visibility in snow and blowing snow this afternoon..
Blizzard warning for
Steinbach - St. Adolphe - Dominion City - Vita - Richer issued
Near-zero visibility in snow and blowing snow expected later today. A low pressure system currently in southwestern Manitoba is tracking along the international border, spreading an area of snow north of its path. Snow is expected to spread through southern Manitoba from west to east with this system, with snow expected to begin in the Red River Valley later this morning. Snowfall amounts will range from 5 to 10 cm north of the City of Winnipeg to 2 to 4 cm south..With Winnipeg expecting about 5 cm. Radar indicates that some areas of snow are very intense. Motorists should take caution as in these areas of heavy snow visibility will rapidly deteriorate to near-zero.

As the system passes over the Red River Valley strong northwest winds with gusts to 60 or 70 km/h will develop. With the fresh snow from this system and the snowfall of the previous days very poor visibility in snow and blowing snow can be expected this afternoon. Currently areas south and west of the City of Winnipeg look to be the hardest hit..With near-zero visibility in snow and blowing snow expected this afternoon..Thus a blizzard warning has been issued for these regions. The City of Winnipeg and areas north will also see snow and blowing snow this afternoon, but not to the extent as south of the city. A winter storm watch is in effect for the City of Winnipeg and the northern Red River Valley.

And people wonder why we go away... no wondering anymore... :? :? :?
