timeshares ROCK!! :)

we did and we thought it was an easy way to make some money.... i never thought for a mnute that these guys were as described example pushy rude obnoxious..... we had fun ate like pigs and made 2400 pesos for 2 hours! how can you beat that!!! remember that these are rael people trying to make a living..... i would recomend anyone who wants to try one to do it. we had to as so many poeple complained we had to see if it was so awful it wasnt....

So, you feel that if other people are dishonest, that gives you a green light to also be dishonest? So what if they manage the timeshares badly, and so what if the Sharkes are forceful and tell you lies sometimes, do you really feel that you should be dishonest in return? Just wondering. Chuck

nope chuck i didnt feel dishonest at all. in fact the time share industry is probably way more dishonest than i will ever be. the people who booked my appt knew full well i was not going to buy but they sed they get a comssion for every couple that goes. i would rather put money in their pockets rather than the corperations... thats just my humble opinion and you dont have to agree with mine nor i yours.... just so as not to start a big debate lol...

Charlie, i certainly agree that this is not one of the more honorable ways to earn money....but the whole timeshare industry is such a shady thang, that i feel like im not any worse than they are.......if i was forced to feel sorry for anyone, besides the people who end up buying, I feel a bit sorry for the initial salesperson that tours us around.....they are usually nice enough people, just trying to earn their commissions on sales.......but they know the game and how its played and that they are only going to sell to a small percentage of people that they tour...........from what i could tell, the timeshare resorts are getting scammed by their own reps, more than by anyone else......all 7 timeshares i did in Cancun the reps on the street knew i was just there for the cash and had no intentions of buying.....not only do they not care, they actually encourage you to do more and more, hoping to get your business and make more commission themselves...........the people who foot the bill for those of us who work timeshares for cash, are those who end up buying these over priced vacations.......the resorts can afford to pay out $500 costs per touring couple, because of the 10% of the people who end up buying and paying $30,000 for something that is valued at a small fraction of that cost.

After reading this I am getting some free food and free money..

my last 2 cents lol... it only took us 2 hours.... definately worth it to us as we were travelling an a very small budget.... i had no problems with losing 2 hours of vacation time as they were 2 hours i usually spent sleeping in the morning any ways... so while yes we were splitting the commision its more than he would have had if we didnt go.... they were always nice and grateful we even talked to them and sed most ppl were rude... so while i understand the points ppl on the otherside of the fence than i am making i didnt feel guilty and i still dont and would do it again in a heart beat my next vacation. so if anyone wants to do it then do it... dont feel shamed into not trying something out because some ppl have diff opinions than you... btw the deal sounded so good if we had any money at all we might have went for it... thats just my humble opinion though....

as for the rest of it.... i notice that when someone doesnt subscribe to your way of thinking you have to come out in force and tell everyone why they are wrong. charlie b, jennybean, katnsocal, and winterpeg man i am suprised he isnt on this thread also...

if someone chooses to do something you wouldnt do doesnt make them a bad person or not worthy of a vacation. just cause i went on a time share and was greatful for the extra cash doesnt give anyone the right to judge me. that doesnt make me dishonost as charlie b already pointed out to me. i just cant get over the level of sanctimonious rightousness that you guys have. it must be nice ot live on a pedastal. i however live in a little place i like to call reality

i have read many things that i dont agree with but hey thats other peoples opinions that doesnt mean they have to agree with mine. i am not a borg and i dont feel a need to subscribe to the party line. you can debate the pros and cons wihtout attacking an dganging up on someone... very immature.

Hello everyone! I am able to respond to this thread from several different perspectives. I own a couple of timeshares, in Puerto Vallarta and elsewhere. Through them I have come to love PV and have bought a condo in PV and now don’t know what to do with my timeshares. But I would never have discovered PV if it were not for timeshares. I sell new homes for a living in Tucson AZ, but also sold timeshares in Tucson for a few months so I can view it from the other side as well. Timeshares are great for some people and not for others. The biggest problem with timeshares is how they are marketed and sold, and unfortunately, that will never change. Some timeshare people and companies are very professional and others are not. Perhaps it would be useful if Mogens were to create a section where people can rate and discuss their experiences at the different timeshare resorts/presentations.

Randy, I like your suggestion. Sounds like a great idea.

I do not think anyone here implied that vacations were only for the privileged, only that one should save up enough money to take one without having to bilk a salesperson out of a couple hundred bucks.

Actually, I was thinking more of a board devoted specifically to all things having to do with timeshares. I understand that it might overlap somewhat with the hotel/condo review board. But the timeshare business plays a big role in the Puerto Vallarta economy and affects, positively and negatively, vacations of many people. I would guess, and could be wrong here, that the majority of vacationers to Vallarta are either on a timeshare exchange or are using a timeshare week they own. I would also guess that a significant percentage, although probably not a majority, of vacationers attend a timeshare presentation during their vacation. So I believe that many people have some experience with timeshares on their vacations which they could share with others in this forum, including both good and bad experiences, advice, etc.
