Is it necessary or custom to tip taxi drivers? I am confused by different posts saying yes and some no.
TAXI TIPPING

Re:TAXI TIPPING
Like El Burro Blanco said, tipping the taxi drivers is not required. I have been told this by several Mexicans. But, as mentioned, it doesn´t hurt if the driver really went the extra mile.
Re:TAXI TIPPING
After many cab experiences I would suggest any safe trip is worth a tip.
Re:TAXI TIPPING
Fast safe trip-tip. Also one time we were going to a resturant and the cabbie went the wrong way. Upon our arrival at the wrong place he realised is mistake and proceded to take us to the correct eatery. When asked what we owed, he quoted the orginal price and said he was sorry for the mix-up. Anyone who admitts a mistake deserves recognition so I paid 2.5 times the fare. After 9 times in PV and 3 in the Yucatan we have never had any problem with the cabbies.
Re:TAXI TIPPING
Personally
I am against turning over cars of any kind HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
IF YOU GET GREAT SERVICE OR A SPECIAL SERVICE TIP EM IF NOT I PAY THE NEGOTIATED RATE.

Re:TAXI TIPPING
I was told by a local that it makes it tough on them if tourists tip. Cab drivers in PV get a much higher rate already that in other parts of Mexico so it is not necessary.BOSTON (Nov 14, 2003 06:55 a.m.):

Re:TAXI TIPPING
We have traveled and lived in PV for 15 years. Taxis charge by \"zone\". No matter where you travel the charges are a flat fee regulated by the government. From the airport is a higher charge than returning, this is the only anomaly that I am aware of. Take the bus! It costs a fraction of a cab ride and is fun! You do not have to tip as it is included, however if you receive extra or exceptional service, we always tip.
