A first-timer-friendly walkthrough from immigration to baggage, customs, the sales corridor, the public lobby, and transportation.
The normal international arrival path
Most international passengers at PVR follow the same lower-level sequence: deplane, follow baggage-claim signs, clear immigration, collect checked bags, pass customs, walk through the timeshare sales corridor, and then reach the public lobby or outside transportation area. The building is compact, but several flights arriving together can make the process feel slow and confusing.
Normal timing
A smooth arrival can be around 20 to 45 minutes from plane to lobby, but immigration and baggage timing depends on how many flights land at once. If you booked a transfer, give your provider the flight number, not just a guessed meeting time.
Documents ready
Have passports ready before immigration. Mexico now uses a digital FMM tourist-card system for many travelers instead of the old paper form; check airline or INM instructions before travel if you need confirmation.
Lower level
Arrivals, baggage claim, customs, the sales corridor, rental-car counters, taxi booths, and transfer meeting points are on the lower level. Departures and security are upstairs.
What to expect before you exit
If you get green
Continue through customs and move toward the exit corridor. Do not stop to reorganize documents or debate transportation until you are out of the flow of passengers.
If you get red
Your bags may be opened for inspection. Stay calm, answer basic questions, and keep receipts or medication information handy if you are carrying anything unusual.
After customs, you are not yet fully in the public pickup area. The next corridor can feel official because people may approach you quickly. Treat it as a sales zone unless you clearly recognize your confirmed transportation company or reservation instructions.

Do not let the shark tank redirect your arrival
PuertoVallarta.net’s current airport guidance gives one blunt rule for this section: ignore the shark tank unless you intentionally want a timeshare presentation. The offers can sound useful when you are tired, free taxi, free tour, discounted excursion, hotel help, but they are commonly tied to high-pressure sales appointments.
Useful phrase
Say “No gracias, ya tengo transporte” and keep walking. You do not need to explain, compare offers, or show a reservation to anyone in this corridor.
Where to aim
Continue toward the sliding glass doors, rental-car/lobby transition, official taxi booths, outside curb, or the meeting point your transfer company gave you.
Safety check
If someone claims to be your driver, verify company name, your name, driver name, vehicle, plate, and reservation before leaving with them.
Pick the right transportation path
Pre-booked transfer
Look for the exact meeting area and name-sign instructions from your provider. If your flight is delayed, the flight number helps them track you.
Reserve transferAirport taxi
The easiest on-arrival choice for most first-timers, families, late arrivals, and travelers with luggage. Use authorized airport taxi counters or clearly marked service points.
Airport taxi infoUber or local taxi
Often cheaper, but usually means crossing the pedestrian bridge to the street side. Best with light bags, daylight, and comfortable walkers.
See bridge routeUse video if you want to recognize the path
If this is your first time arriving at PVR, the walkthrough videos are useful before travel day because they show the corridor sequence better than text alone.
