Vallarta Forges International ‘Smart Tourism’ Alliances

Puerto Vallarta is actively pursuing its vision of becoming a leading “smart tourism” destination in Latin America. The local government, led by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía, is currently participating in the Spain Tourism & TravelTech México 2025 forum in Mexico City, a key event for forging alliances with top Spanish companies specializing in tourism innovation, sustainability, and destination digitalization.

The forum, running from May 19th until today, May 22nd, brings together leaders from the tourism sector, technology firms, and government authorities from both Spain and Mexico. It’s organized by the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain alongside the State Society for Innovation Management and Tourist Technologies (SEGITTUR). Representing Puerto Vallarta, Councilwoman Melissa Madero Plascencia, president of the Commission for Tourist Services and Visitor Attention, was invited by the Spanish Embassy in Mexico to solidify strategic ties with companies focused on tourism intelligence and digital transformation.

During the forum, the Puerto Vallarta delegation has engaged in discussions with prominent companies such as Mabrian, Sismotur, Libelium, iUrban, OK Located, and Inteligencia Turística. These meetings are exploring advanced technological solutions, including AI-powered virtual assistants, digital signage, data analytics, and sustainable models applicable to destination management. The goal of these initiatives is to position Puerto Vallarta as an Intelligent Tourist Destination (DTI), thereby enhancing the visitor experience to be more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive for both tourists and residents.
